Places to stay, Things to do and see

The City of Fountains,’ ‘The Paris of the Plains,’ ‘The Jazz Capital of the World.

Welcome to Kansas City! We hope you will enjoy your time while you are here.

If you are flying in for the wedding, you will be flying into Kansas City International Airport.

Kansas City has lots of wonderful lodging options available for your stay.

We have partnered with Drury Inn and Suites and set aside a block of rooms for the weekend. Reservations can be made by going to the website and using group code 2174111. You can also call (800) 325-0720 and reference the same group code.  The Drury is located just off I35 and Shawnee Mission Parkway in Merriam, KS. It is only a few miles from the church and the theatre.

Some of the ammenities that the Drury offers are:

  • Free breakfast every morning; belgian waffles, scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy and more
  • Free kickback; each evening from 5:30 to 7:00 enjoy a rotating menu of hot food and cold beverages
  • Free wifi
  • And much more

If you would prefer not to stay right off the highway, or you want to experience the Country Club Plaza, there are plenty of options available down there as well with various price points.

If you would like to stay in the area but don’t want to stay at the Drury there are plenty of options for you.

You can also stay at Crown Center (I told you, LOTS of options).

The Sheraton Crown Center

The Westin Crown Center

Or there is the fun Kansas City Power & Light District (P&L).

Hilton President

Marriott Downtown

Hotel Phillips

If you have never been to Kansas City before, there are LOTS of fun things to do here. You can visit the place we got engaged. Hang out with the polar bears or visit the future home of the penguins at the Kansas City Zoo. For Jazz fans, The American Jazz Museum is a treat; you can also check out the Negro League Baseball Museum which is housed in the same building in the historic 18th & Vine district.

Kansas City is home to lots of sports teams. Sporting KC and the Royals are both on the road the weekend of the wedding, but the minor league team, The T-Bones, is home on the 18th. We have been to a game before and it is pretty inexpensive and a lot of fun. Or, if you are a racing fan, check out the first day of the Grand-AM Road Race being held at the Kansas Speedway.

For a taste of the night life, you can hang out at the Power & Light district, Westport, Brookside, or Martini Corner.

Finally, for a small taste of Vegas right here in Kansas City, you can select any of the numerous casinos, such as Harrah’s, Argosy or Ameristar.

As you can see, there is plenty to do!

Welcome to our lovely city and enjoy your stay!
